Last March 16, 2021, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) held the awarding ceremony for the 2021 Migration Advocacy and Media Awards, at which Bridging the Gap: A Young People’s Guide to Living in Japan was named Best Non-Fiction/Guide Book in the Print Journalism category. Takashi Ota, a Kakehashi member completing his doctoral studies at the University of the Philippines, accepted the award at the Manila Hotel on behalf of Kakehashi. The trophy was inspired by a migratory bird symbolizing journey, peace, and prosperity, all appropriate themes befitting Filipino migrants.
